After nearly four years, she moved to Brussels and joined BNP Paribas Fortis, where she spent six years honing her financial management and risk assessment skills.In June 2012, Soraya returned to Rwanda and took on the role of Senior Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation. During this time, she played a pivotal role in Rwanda’s successful bid for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council. After her advisory role, she briefly engaged in private consulting in Brussels before joining the Dutch financial conglomerate, ING. At ING, she climbed the ranks to become Vice President, Financial Institutions & Financial Markets Risk Management, based in London, United Kingdom.Soraya’s political career took a significant turn in October 2018 when she was appointed as the Cabinet Minister of Trade and Industry in Rwanda. This appointment was part of a cabinet reshuffle by President Paul Kagame, which increased the representation of women in the cabinet. As the Minister of Trade and Industry, Soraya focused on promoting trade, industrial growth, and economic development in Rwanda.
